The best way to make sure your pet doesn't get lost is to microchip!

stray terrier

What is microchipping?
A microchip is a tiny chip the size of a grain of rice inserted permanently into your animal's skin. A scanner can be used to tell if a pet has a microchip. There is a national registry that lists guardian information. If you find an animal with a chip, you can call an 800 number for the guardian contact info.

Q. Does getting a microchip hurt my pet?
A. no more than when your pet gets his annual vaccines. It is done in just a few seconds while your pet is awake.

Q. How easy is it to change the information if moving?
A. A simple phone call to the company that manufactures the chips will get the job done.

Q. Will the microchip stay in place?
A. Yes, they stay in place and can't fall off like a collar or ID tag. Shelters and vet offices can have scanners to scan for a microchip.

Q.Where can I get my pet microchipped?
A.You can have this procedure done at any veterinarian's office or the Toledo Area Humane society and it is not very expensive.

Q. How will the person who finds my pet know that he has a microchip?
A. microchips come with a collar tag with an 800 # to call, but if the collar has fallen off, then the person finding your animal will need to take him to a place such as a vet or shelter that has a scanner to check for microchips.
