Almost 12,500 Animals Fixed in 2011!
Thanks to our wonderful clients, donors, volunteers and staff, we fixed 12,451 animals in 2011! Huffle Puff of the Murphy family (pictured above) had the honor of being the final animal fixed for the year. In addition to our low-cost spay/neuter services, we also distributed over 71,000 pounds of pet food to animals and people in need through the Humane Ohio Pet Food Bank! Thank YOU for helping us make all of this possible! |

Beat the Heat!

The weather outside may be chilly, but for animal shelters and rescue groups, spring is just around the corner and the groups will become overwhelmed with requests to take in kittens. In an effort to prevent unwanted litters and reduce the number of cats and kittens being euthanized in shelters, Humane Ohio has planned a special "Beat the Heat" promotion for the month of February. We'll reduce our normal, low-cost price to spay female cats to $20! Please call 419-266-5607 to make an appointment. Must mention Beat the Heat.
Note to Wood County and Fulton County residents: Transportation is available to/from Humane Ohio through the Wood County Humane Society and the Fulton County Humane Society. If you want to schedule a "Beat the Heat" appointment and reserve a spot on the transport for your cat(s), please call the Wood County Humane Society at 419-352-7339 or, if you're in Fulton County, complete the "Beat the Heat" appointment form at www.fultonhumanesociety.com. |

Hurricane Irene Survivor Spayed at Humane Ohio!
Humane Ohio had the pleasure of spaying Sami Sweetheart (above) after Len Rose rescued her during Hurricane Irene. As a volunteer with Monroe Red Cross, Len traveled to North Carolina to assist with disaster relief efforts and came across this girl tied to a front porch. Volunteers returned daily to provide food and hoped her owners would return. When Len came home, he kept in touch with local volunteers to check on the dog.
Within a few days of being back, Len and his daughter, Lisa, decided they just had to go back for Sami Sweetheart and drove almost 1,600 miles to save her. Thank goodness they did; by the time they arrived, FEMA had condemned the house - which had been under 10 feet of water - and the mosquitos were like swarms of locusts. When they got there, Len jumped out of the truck and Sami Sweetheart licked him wildly. Lisa remembers her day saying "see, I told you I'd come back for you, sweetie!" Len and his wife already have three rescue animals, but opened their home, hearts and wallet to another with the help of Humane Ohio's low-cost spay/neuter prices. |
